International Women’s Day 2021!

The theme for International Women’s Day 2021 was “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”. This was in alignment with the main theme of the 65th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

Interestingly enough, considering that women are the Heads of State and Government in only 20 worldwide countries, the majority of the countries that responded best to the Covid-19 pandemic were headed by women. Some examples of these are Denmark, Germany, New Zealand, Iceland, Finland, Slovakia, and Ethiopia, where their female leaders have been widely recognized for the effectiveness, rapidity, and decisiveness of their national responses in the face of this pandemic.

Although in this day and age we have come a very long way in respect to the rights of women and gender equality, we still have a very long way to go. Many people scoff at the idea of celebrating a day like this one, claiming it represents gender inequality in itself. However, I would like to take a moment to point out, that it is only because of campaigns much like this, that women today have some of the rights we all take for granted! I hear no end of people commenting about how women have had all the main rights for as long as they can remember, but they miss the point that other women had to fight long and hard to get those.

Wouldn’t it be nice to leave a world for our daughters in which they have the right to equal pay, to leadership positions, to complete gender equality, and an end to violence against women in all forms? I know that I personally want nothing less for my daughter, and this is why I feel so passionately about this day and everything it stands for.

We are very lucky that at Kodify women have gender equality, but it is sad to say that is NOT the case for the majority of companies worldwide. It is the responsibility of every individual to change the world for the better, and if we can raise awareness for these kinds of things as a company, and try to set a bar for others to follow, I believe it to be our social and corporate responsibility to do exactly that!

Some of the ladies at Kodify came together to create a short video highlighting some of our most influential women in leadership positions, and some of the women’s rights that are closest to our hearts!

If you missed it on social media, you can check out the video here!
